The tradition of the diamond engagement ring dates back to the 15th century

The engagement ring has its origins in ancient Egypt, where its circular shape symbolized an eternal cycle. In 1477, the Archduke Maximilian-Joseph of Austria-Este offers to Mary of Burgundy an alliance decorated with diamonds forming her initials, and thus gives birth to the tradition which continues until our days. This extremely resistant stone has become the symbol of conjugal fidelity.
