Butterflies taste their food with their feet

Their taste sensors are located on the bottom of their legs, more precisely on their tarsi. This is also the case with the bee and the fly. They have a sensitivity 2000 times higher than that of the tongue in humans. Olfactory organs are also found on their antennae, and they allow them to locate the scented messages of a female to 10 kilometers around, in some species.

Their average lifespan is 20 to 40 days, and some species can live up to 10 months.
